Fraud/Spam Email Wedding Info Request

Yesterday I received an email to our info account asking for information about our wedding services to California. Although it seemed suspicious from the first email based on some wording, I replied to confirm that this was a fraud/spam email. I thought my fellow wedding event friends should have a look at the email incase this new trick comes across their inbox as well so they can beware.

SPAMMER EMAIL ONE: "INQUIRE..."
From: mcneil_mascott_2003 @ yahoo.com
"Good day,I am Mr McNeil mascot from California i am getting married to Miss Helen Chrisy on the 26th 0f May 2009 at 2156 High Street Santa Cruz ,CA 95064and i needed a special photographer who will take a place at the event next 2months i will like to know all what it will costyou to get to my location here and the actual amount to take a coverage of 7hour from the church to the reception i really need to know this so that i can contact my father in-law about this because he his the one paying for this coverage await your response immediately. Thanks & God bless Regards McNeil mascot"

(NOTES: That venue address does not show a location on Google Maps. The key wording that tipped me off was "I await your response immediately" & "God bless, Regards". When attempting to reply, the first time, my email was rejected by Yahoo.)

MY REPLY ONE:

"Hi McNeil,
Congratulations on the wedding plans!
The coverage you're looking for has two options........What is the name of the venue the wedding and reception will be held? What are the hours that you would need us there, so I can make arrangements?............If you would like I can call you to give you more information on the phone or we can take care of everything online as well.
Thank you very much!"

SPAMMER EMAIL TWO: "PAYMENT DETAILS IS NEEDED..."
"Thanks for the mail the payment will be sent to you to hold the date for the wedding and kindly get back to me with the payment details listed below:name on payment address postal codephone number the payment will be sent to you as soon as you provide the details.my father inlaw has issued out a payment of $4000 for the wedding photographer and the wedding planner so you are to deduct your deposit of $1000 out of it and the remaining will be for the wedding planner. Regards mcneil mascott"

(NOTES: I never mentioned a deposit amount)

MY REPLY TWO:
"Hi Mcneil,
Thank you Mcneil............Before you send payment I will need you to fill out our wedding service agreement with your information. Since you are in CA I can email this to you or fax. I also need to make sure that you know we are not shooting photos as you mentioned. This would be for video only. Unfortunatley we will not accept payments over the amount and deduct our portion from it. Please only pay the amount due on your contract from Unknown Films. Would you like to pay by check or credit card? Also before I can send you the contract please let me know the name of the wedding venue as well and the hours that you would like us to attend so that I can create the agreement for you.
Thank you."

This type of email is a new low for our spammer un-friends :)
If I get another reply Ill post it up too.

Depth of Focus: Wedding Films from My Point of View

Read a recent article that onewed.com published on their blog today. Written by Nathan Maulorico.

"Depth of focus: The range of image distances corresponding to the range of object distances. This term is well understood by most filmmakers and videographers - it’s an important part in what we do. Without depth of focus, it would be impossible to place objects or people where you want them in the frame. It would be impossible to make your vision clear to the viewer. There’s also another type of depth of focus, the type filmmakers must have inside themselves in order to truly capture an event and create a story out of what they have captured. For an artist, the real “focus” becomes what is happening around them, and the real “depth” is how much they become a part of what is happening......."

THANK YOU!!Model Pose was an app created for photographers in the field, or any photographer for that matter. In fact I'm a filmmaker and I use this app. Let me start by giving you an example of how this app is used: many times I will be filming a wedding and I'll have to create many types of poses of the bride and groom to shoot. I always want my poses to be more and more creative while still keeping a custom feel for the couple. Sometimes the poses or "look" I'm looking for doesn't come to mind as fast as I want or need it to. Model Pose makes it easy for me to refer to my phone and look at previous shots I have done as well as check out one of the 230 new ideas that the app already has. Since the photos can be put into folder categories based on pose (and kept in a neat little film strip) it makes sense for me to us it rather than wander through the phone's photo album. I tend to take pictures with the iPhone wherever I'm at when I see something that inspires me for the future too. This app lets me categorize and store the picture I took for later use, then sync with iPhoto or even Google Picasa! If your own inspiration doesn't work out for you there's always the built in internet photo library as well to pull some ideas from. The only real thing I hope to see added to this app in the future is a lock feature. Since we also do boudoir photography it may be a good idea to keep those photos a little more private. The newer 1.5 version seems like it has improved much over the original in response to user feedback. That's not surprising considering that the response time for support has been amazingly fast and helpful even for myself. I think this app is well worth the money spent. As the app improves and becomes even better I'll be thanking myself for making life on the field that much easier.

iPhone App Review: To Do's

As many of you know all of the Unknown Films crew carries around our iPhones attached to our hips, kinda like breathing machines. Since between all of us there are many apps downloaded I thought I would start reviewing some of them. Here's my first one...

::To Do's::
Category: Productivity
Release Date: 24AUG08
Version: 2.o
Price: Free

This app has been a life saver for me!! Not only does To Do's have an super easy to use interface but it seems more practical than most of the other "To Do" type apps I've seen and used. Some of the other apps seemed to have some neat features but nothing really that worked fast and could be used as a quick reference. (Many of the others ones had the same features the phone came with already). I don't want to be looking around everywhere for notes all the time, sifting through useless features anyway. I wanted to be able to open the app see what I needed to do and how important it was. This app did all that and kept it color coded for me too (Red for High Priority, Orange for Normal, and Black for Low), it even has one of those bubble number indicators on the iPhone home screen so you can see how many tasks are waiting on you to finish up. Best of all this app is FREE! Thank you Billy Myers!

Here are a few screen shots from my phone so you can see what I'm up too...
